Cecily Bauchmann is owning up to her mistake.
After the TikToker went viral for sharing she was bringing her four kids to Disney World during Hurricane Milton, she shared a follow-up taking responsibility.
“Hey guys I wanted to make a video from my last video prior to leaving to go to Florida and just explain everything,” Cecily said in a TikTok story Oct. 10. “My family is no longer in Florida. We are now in Nashville and we left Florida once evacuation orders were issued.”
The digital creator went on to explain that she had called the hotel she was planning to stay at with her family and was told they could still be accommodated despite the weather conditions—so she decided to continue on with their trip.
“Bad decision,” she added in her apology video. “Do I regret it? Absolutely. I am very naive when it comes to the way storms develop and how quickly they develop. Looking back, that is something I wish I could change.”
Still, Cecily emphasized that as soon as the situation started becoming dangerous—her family decided to head back home. She also nodded toward the devastation that Hurricane Milton has already caused in Florida.
“Once it was declared a Category 5 hurricane, that is when we decided to leave,” she continued. “I am investing in relief organizations and I’m also supporting them. I couldn’t continue on with life without posting this video. Hurricane Milton is heavy on my heart right now and it will continue to be.”
And while Cecily deleted her original vlog about going to Florida—the theme park itself ultimately closed during the storm—many social media users pointed out the ramifications of her deciding to travel to the peninsula in the first place.
“She’s taking away resources from actual Floridians,” one Reddit user wrote. “Being at a hotel that could be used for people to evacuate.”
Another TikToker criticized Cecily’s original Pack With Me for Disney video, calling out the callousness, “You have people packing up their whole homes inside of their vehicle,” they said in a video. “not knowing if they’re gonna see their homes again.”
